Have you always dreamed of having permanently smooth, hair free legs. Do you love the summer sun but hate all the shaving, waxing and constant effort that comes with baring your skin to the elements. If you want to be fuzz free by summertime then you should start Laser Hair Removal now.
What is Laser Hair Removal and how does it work?
Laser hair removal is a medical / aesthetic procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. During hair removal the laser produces a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light is converted into heat which damages the hair follicle and prevents or drastically slows future hair growth.
Basically the principle of laser hair removal is that the pigment of the hair, and not the pigment of the skin absorbs the light from the laser, and as it is absorbed ,that light damages the hair follicle. The bigger the contrast in hair to skin colour, the better the eventual outcome of hair loss.
Why do I need to start now to be hair free by summertime?
In a perfect world you would come and see us, get the area you wanted hair free zapped with our laser and your hair would be gone forever. Unfortunately this is not the case and that’s down to how our hair grows. There are 3 stages in the hair growth cycle and each hair has an individual growth rate.
Here is how the 3 stages in the hair growth cycle affect hair removal.
Stage 1 – Anagen
This is the first stage in the hair growth cycle. The hair in this stage is above the skin and ready for removal. Still attached to the papilla at the base the hair follicle the hair stays in this phase or 2-3 weeks. The perfect time for targeting the hair pigment and destroying the follicle.
Stage 2 – Catagen
The hair shedding phase that happens in between the growth and rest stages. We all at various intervals will find hair on our pillows and clothes and this is normal. However as this stage only lasts one or two days it is unlikely for the hair to be at this point during hair removal making it a poor target.
Stage 3 – Telogen
Considered the rest phase. After the hair has been shed in the Catagen stage it goes dormant. We have no way of knowing how long this stage will last as it varies considerably. In some cases the hair might begin to grow back in a few days, while in others it can stay dormant for a number of years. Laser removal is not possible during this stage of the growth cycle.
The importance of sticking to your appointment schedule
Now you understand the hair growth cycle you can see why the timing of your laser hair removal appointments are so important and why you need more than one appointment to cover all stages of the hair growth cycle.
Because your hair needs to be in the first anagen phase of growth to be targeted and each hair is in a different stage of growth most people will need between 6 and 8 laser sessions to completely permanently remove all hair from an area. Later in the process you might still need a touch up or two to target the hair that was dormant in the telogen phase that has since started to grow again.

Other things you need to know before Laser Hair Removal
- Stay out of the sun – The best reason to get your hair removal done in the winter months. You should avoid sun exposure, sun beds or other tanning agents for up to six weeks before your treatment begins.
- Avoid other methods of hair removal – Do NOT pluck, wax, sugar or use electrolysis for a minimum of 4 weeks before treatments as this can affect the hair follicle and make the treatment less effective
- Trim & Shave the Area – Do this the day before your treatment begins. This removes the hair above the skin that can burn when the laser is applied, but leaves the shaft and hair follicle intact just below the surface of the skin.
What can I expect during treatment?
The length of time or hair removal will vary depending on the size of the area being targeted. Your upper lip might take 5-10 mins, whereas your back could take up to an hour. During the procedure you might feel sensations resembling a little pinprick, some heat and perhaps some mild discomfort, but it is easily bearable and in no way compares to the pain that comes with waxing or sugaring.
After treatment what can I expect?
Directly after the treatment you might find the skin is red and can be slightly swollen for the first few hours. This will soon fade and your skin will return to normal very quickly.
The hair will not fall out immediately. Over a period of days and weeks the hair will gradually fall out, and be replaced with other hairs growing in a different cycle to the ones that have been removed. You will notice a vast difference after 2 or three treatments, and the hair that does come back will be more sparse, fine and lighter in tone and texture.
Cost v’s other hair removal methods
Let us take for example a lady who gets her bikini line waxed every 6 weeks at a cost of £18, that works out at around £155 pounds a year. Then extend this cost over the course of say 30 years and you are looking at around £4650 pounds just for that one area.
If you get your legs half waxed or sugared every 6 or 7 weeks at a cost of approx. £24, in a year that £180 and in your lifetime you will spend over £7000 on your legs alone. If you book three appointments for Laser Hair Removal of half leg, we charge just £230 for 3 sessions.
Imagine never having to worry about shaving or waxing your legs again….Bliss. Not only that but you will never have in-growing hairs or stubble and think of all the money you could save.
And we are offering 15% off all our treatments for the month of January.
